Awards: Nominated for a Grammy Award for "Best Jazz Instrumental Solo" for solo on "P. Rainey Coalition" CD in 1996 "My earliest influences growing up were actually guitar players rather than saxophone players because I was so into rock music. I used to listen to musicians like Eric Clapton, Johnnie Winter, and Frank Zappa and try to duplicate what they were playing on my saxophone. Then eventually heard Tom Scott, Michael Brecker, and Dave Sanborn and Edgar Winter who were coming from the same place. The real jazz legend influences came later, like Sonny Rollins, Cannonball Adderley, and of course John Coltrane and Miles Davis. These are the guys who are the true innovators of their time and keep jazz fresh and exciting and that is what we're trying to do with the Goin' Public CD's."
