I’m in sixth grade and I want to play in a band at my school. I’m torn between a saxophone and a clarinet. Which one is better?

Saxophone is easier to learn in the beginning and it is more accepted in pop music if you’d like to ever actually take it to another level past the school band and play in any kind of pop band or garage band. On the other hand, clarinet is smaller, easier to carry and gets more interesting parts to play in the school concert band.

But the most important thing you can do is to check on Youtube and listen to the saxophone and the clarinet and see which one YOU like better. THAT’S the one that is better for you, because you’re going to have more fun playing it and it’s more about what is going to inspire you to practice it after the initial thrill of playing an instrument is gone. That’s what’s most important.
